Smallest toad species in North America. Adult length 0.75-1.3 inches from snout to vent. Short head with pointed snout and a flat, short body. Coloration occurs in shades of brown or black with long light-colored dorsal stripe. 8 to 10 dark patches on dorsal side of body. Ventral side solid greyish white.
Range
Southeastern United States. Found from southern Virginia to south Florida, range extends west to eastern Louisiana and east to the Atlantic Ocean.
Habitat
Terrestrial. Found in coastal plains in wet, grassy areas such as wetlands, ponds, and ditches.
Variations
Males: Dark, dusty-colored throat.
