Slim body with long legs, adult length of 2 to 3.5 inches. Body is brown or green with many well-defined round spots across dorsal side. Spots are rounded, dark in coloration with pale border of yellow to tan.
Range
Found throughout central and north eastern North America. Range extends west to California, east to Maine. North to Ontario and south to New Mexico.
Habitat
Terrestrial. Habitat variable from woodlands to prairies and tundras. Occasionally found quite a distance from any bodies of water. Juveniles are aquatic from hatching to metamorphosis and found in permanent ponds lacking fish.
Variations
Can occur in morphs with uniform brown-green coloration without any spots.
