Range
Southeastern United States. Primarily found from Florida to Texas along the Gulf of Mexico. Small population on the island of Cuba.
Habitat
Semi-aquatic. Found in brackish salt marshes & shores.
Variations
Gulf subspecies: Coloration is tan, grey, or yellow with four brownish-black stripes running down length of body. Mangrove subspecies: Varying coloration from grey to green or tan with dark bands. Occasionally occurs in solid red-orange or yellow color variants. Atlantic subspecies: Smaller than other two subspecies, four dark neck stripes with dark bands/blotches down dorsal side of body.
