A black salamander with small white splotches all over its body. It averages 4.5-7 cm in snout to vent length and has well-developed legs. Its tail is round and about the same length as the body. It has a wide, flat head and a short snout.
Range
North central Louisiana and southern Arkansas.
Habitat
Lives among moist leaf litter in hardwood or pine forest habitats. Often hides under ground debris, rocks, or logs.
Variations
No significant variations in appearance.
Similar species
This species resembles several other black salamanders with white spots, including the white-spotted slimy salamander (*Plethodon cylindraceus*), southern Appalachian salamander (*Plethodon teyahalee*), and cow know salamander (*Plethodon punctatus*).
