A green or brown frog with small to medium darker spots all over body. These spots are more like bands on the hind legs. It grows to about 4.3 inches in length and has somewhat prominent dorsolateral folds. It has large eyes and bumpy skin.
Range
Southeastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico. Also several areas in northern and central Mexico.
Habitat
Lives in and around just about any type of fresh water body in temperate forest habitats.
Variations
Can be various shades of green with darker green spots, or shades of brown with brown spots. Can also be green with brown spots.
Similar species
Looks quite similar to the Rio Grande leopard frog (*Lithobates berlandieri*) or the plains leopard frog (*Lithobates blairi*), both of which are found further east, or the Montezuma leopard frog (*Lithobates montezumae*) which is only found in southern Mexico. Could be confused with the larger American bullfrog (*Lithobates catesbeianus*).
