Range
Found across the southern part of the United States, into Mexico. Range extends west to Arizona, north to Nebraska, South into Mexico, and East to the Atlantic Ocean.
Habitat
Primarily terrestrial. Variety of habitats including woodlands, shrublands, and grasslands; typically found in treed areas. Can be seen on fences, stumps, rocks, and trees. Fossorial at night or found in rock crevices after dark.
Variations
Females: Patterns of black stripes on back. Males: Patches of blue on underside & throat.
