How to identify
Adult length between 1 and 1.5 inches. Coloration varies as individuals are able to assume a variety of colors (similar to a chameleon) including green, yellow, and brown. Can occur in solid colors or with spotted patterns, some individuals have brown bars running through their eyes &/or light broken stripes running down sides of body. Best way to identify the Squirrel Treefrog is by eliminating it from similar species such as the Green Treefrog (white stripe down sides), Barking Treefrog (large with granular skin), Grey and Pinewoods Treefrogs (bright yellow coloration or spots on inside of thighs).
Range
Southeastern United States. Range extends east from the Atlantic Ocean west into Texas, North into Virginia and south to the Florida Keys.
Habitat
Terrestrial. Habitats include marshes, swamps, lake & stream edges, and gardens.
Variations
Individuals extremely variable in coloration and patterning.
